For New Patients

1. Referral Requirements

To schedule an appointment with a pediatrician at Calgary Children’s Clinic, a referral from your family physician or nurse practitioner is required. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate patients without a referral.

2. Referral Limitations

Please note that we cannot accept referrals from other professionals, such as psychologists, public health nurses, or therapists. Only referrals from family physicians and nurse practitioners will be accepted.

3. Continuity of Care with Family Physician

It is crucial for all patients to maintain ongoing care with their family physician while also consulting with a pediatrician at our clinic. Our pediatricians will address the specific concerns for which your child was referred. For all other concerns, you should continue follow-up care with your family physician.

4. Appointment Cancellations and Rescheduling

In case you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment, please notify the clinic at least 24 hours in advance. This will allow us to accommodate other patients who may be in need of urgent care. Failure to provide timely notice may result in a cancellation fee.

5. Follow-up Appointments

Please ensure that you book a follow-up appointment before leaving the clinic if your pediatrician recommends it. If it is more convenient, you may call us later to book a follow-up appointment. However, please be aware that you should book at least one month before the expected appointment date to secure your preferred time slot.

6. New Concerns or Illnesses

For new concerns or illnesses, please contact your family physician for an assessment. If it is an emergency, call 811 or proceed to the nearest emergency department. The pediatrician at our clinic focuses on addressing specific referral concerns; therefore, it is essential to consult your family physician for any new issues that may arise.

7. Late Arrival Policy

Please arrive at least 10 minutes before your scheduled appointment time. If you arrive late, we may need to shorten the duration of your appointment or reschedule it to ensure timely care for all patients. Patients arriving more than 15 minutes late may be considered as a no-show and may need to reschedule their appointment.

8. Prescription Refill Policy

For prescription refills, kindly contact your family physician or pharmacist. If necessary, they will coordinate with our pediatricians to ensure proper medication management. Please allow at least 72 hours for prescription refill requests to be processed.

9. Confidentiality and Privacy Policy

At Calgary Children’s Clinic, we prioritize the confidentiality and privacy of our patients’ personal and medical information. We strictly adhere to all applicable privacy laws and regulations. We encourage you to review our detailed Privacy Policy on our website for more information.

10. Payment Policy

All applicable fees for services not covered by your provincial health plan must be paid at the time of your appointment. We accept cash, debit, and major credit cards. If you have any questions regarding our fees or payment policy, please contact our clinic in advance.
